Side Lying Posture
Step 1: Gather as close to the above props as you can- you can use hard cover books instead of blocks, a firm couch cushion instead of a bolster.
Step 2: Assemble the props as demonstrated in the above photo.
Step 3: Lie down on whatever side is most comfortable, supporting under your head, between your legs, and slide your bottom arm underneath the propped up cushion. Make sure all of your joints feel supported, and you don’t feel any muscles stretching.
Step 4: Place the scarf around your eyes to block out any light.
Step 5 (Optional): Cover yourself with a blanket, both for warmth and weight/ containment (not pictured).
Benefits: Side lying is a great alternative to lying on your front, especially if you find it difficult to breathe. It’s a particularly helpful posture for busy minds and intense emotions.
